We have a temporary contract requirement for an experienced Mechanical Designer to support our client's site base in Inverclyde.

Duration - 12 months with potential to extend.

Qualification - Degree/HND/HNC (or equivalent), however the level of practical experience attained will also be part of the consideration

Industry Experience - Onsite Facilities/Building Services Environment.

Role Overview

You will be supporting our client's Facilities department and will be responsible for the development and continued upkeep of all site CAD drawings, producing equipment layout plans and provide mechanical support to the site Facilities team.

Responsibilities:-

You will be developed to become the system owner for all site M&E drawings and assist in general mechanical aspects of the Facilities engineering team in relation to the day-to-day operation of the site infrastructure.
You will be required to produce design, construction and as fitted drawings for the layout of manufacturing plant and all Facilities infrastructure, eg, HVAC, piped System, electrical distribution, etc)
In addition, draw upon existing knowledge and understanding of typical mechanical Facilities systems would be developed to become a valued member of the mechanical engineering team.

Competencies:-

Extremely competent in all aspects of CAD drawings (AutoCAD)
Capable of site surveys in various plant areas and pipe spaces on site.
An understanding of typical mechanical plant / facilities systems.
A keen interest in design and can sketch ideas or designs.
Able to work with minimum supervision and guidance on a range of small to medium projects.
A working knowledge of ducted HVAC systems, piped/ pumped systems, and extract / local exhaust ventilation systems.
Familiarity of Chilled water systems, steam / hot water generation & distribution, would also be an advantage but not essential.
General awareness of standards & best practices with respect to mechanical building services
Ability to understand & digest engineering drawings, design specifications and technical literature.
Computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Office products
Excellent written and oral communication skills across a variety of levels & disciplines
Highly motivated self-starter capable of developing tasks from initial request to a satisfactory conclusion, sustaining a high level of industry throughout
Ability to identify priorities and orchestrate multiple activities.

You will receive day-to-day guidance / development from the Facilities Engineering Manager as required, however you will be expected to progress tasks with minimal supervision and deal with problem situations as they arise, having the ability to know when to seek advice or assistance being equally important.

Qualifications/Experience

You will have sound drafting expertise coupled with and demonstrable experience of working in a Facilities / Building Services environment.
You will be expected to possess formal mechanical / draughting engineering qualifications e.g., Degree/HND/HNC, however the level of practical experience attained will also be part of the consideration.
