Java Developer - Bristol - Permanent - £37k - £40k Per Annum

The Company
An experienced Java Developer is required by an education institution, based in Bristol.

The Role
This role will analyse user needs and then design, develop, deliver, support and maintain innovative and properly-engineered and integrated information systems services for use by all users. Advance the establishment of enterprise system platforms which will play a key part in the future of the information architecture, improving access to resources used

Responsibilities
*Continually maintain and develop specialist knowledge through monitoring industry trends, self-directed learning and work experience. This includes development of a broad awareness of both the IT industry and also the more specific technologies, techniques and applications in use in industry and educational sectors.
*Learn about the company's structures, policies and procedures and relevant issues Make decisions and suggestions that contribute to the success of project objectives.
*Work with substantial personal autonomy and responsibility. Plan own workload to meet specific objectives and contribute to the development of broader work plans.
*For existing information systems - enhance, maintain, administer, support, and advise users, ensuring systems continue to deliver the required value throughout their lifetime.
*Develop and deliver innovative, properly-engineered and integrated information systems services (including bespoke, packaged solutions, SaaS and enhancements) that meet users' requirements and further enhance the effective operation of the business by providing better tools to support process and deliver improved information access.

Experience Required
*Experience of supporting applications on Windows and Unix platforms
*Experience of developing and supporting applications using Java web technologies
*Experience of Unix shell scripting
*Experience of supporting applications using Oracle or SQL Server databases
*Good knowledge of SQL
*Broad technical knowledge and the willingness to learn new skills as required
*Experience of working with non-technical users
*Knowledge of ITIL
