Electrical Engineer - (R&D)

Spring Engineering have an opening for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our clients R&D team based in Edinburgh on a permanent basis.

Applicants should hold relevant qualification along with Semiconductor industry experience, understanding of Circuit Design/PCB and experience relating to Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical systems (mechatronics).

As the Module Electronic Engineer you will be involved with the design of systems at module and application level. The electrical design forms an integral part of the component integration and thermal management of the module.

The product development role is to interpret and assess the electrical requirements of IC silicon dice used in our packages to deliver the specified performance. Identify and specify associated in module components (passives, drivers, support ICs) required to meet the electrical and mechanical requirements of the product. To propose an electrical circuit solution for the package that accounts for the mechanical restrictions imposed by the package, IC and components

The successful candidate will have responsibility to specify the signal-to-pad allocation, pad size and pad distribution for the package electrical footprint, generate a netlist and schematic diagram that accurately represents the electrical interconnect and maintain this throughout the design phase. They are responsible for final product electrical review and approval. They will develop a good understand of the application level function and be responsible for ensuring the electrical performance of the design, throughout build, test, characterisation and at the final customer.

Candidate Skills

Knowledge of the Product Development flow based on an FMEA led design methodology
Understanding of mass-production design concepts, applying design rules to ensure good Cp, Cpk performance in production.
Understanding of Electrical Circuit Design, at either substrate or PCB design level
Understanding of the construction and manufacturing flows for PCB and organic or ceramic substrates
Capability for electronic measurement and characterization at module and application level
Knowledge of Semiconductor and microelectronics packaging
Basic understand of design for optimizing thermal management

Applicants should have relevant industry experience, developing skills for electronic product design. The candidate will have direct contact with many functions across the Company including R&D teams, manufacturing plants and process development. There will be direct external contact with suppliers, subcontractors and also with end customers. As such excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. A willingness to travel to manufacturing plants and suppliers worldwide is essential.
