Spring Group was formally created in June 1998 following a re-branding exercise, but the original company has been in existence since early 1990, initially as CRT Group.

The next eight years saw a period of expansion as the Company acquired a number of businesses including; Software Personnel, Couva Computer Services, Link-Up Recruitment, Systems Resources, Inline KPG and Intertech Computer Consultants Ltd. This intense period of acquisition culminated in the creation of the Spring Group and Spring Technology Staffing Services.

1998 saw the launch of Spring Personnel following the acquisition of LRS, though the company maintains the Tact brand in Exeter. Later that year they also purchased the Elizabeth Hunt agency.

In December 2000, the Group acquired hy-phen Workforce Management Solutions, an industry-leading recruitment solutions provider.

May 2002 saw the acquisition of Triage, re-named Spring Telecoms. This was closely followed by the purchase of Best International in 2003 which was integrated into Spring Technology.
