As a leading provider of recruitment and staffing solutions, the service that the Spring Group provides directly affects the lives of our candidates, contractors and clients, as well as our consultants and our staff. Spring’s reputation and future prosperity is intrinsically linked to our ethical behaviour when placing workers, whether on a part-time or full-time basis, and whether temporary or permanent.

We recognise too that we are part of the wider community in which we operate. With offices and staff located across the country, Spring interacts with many different stakeholders, including suppliers, who are often also employers in their own right. Spring’s success depends as much on the perception of how we discharge our social and environmental responsibilities as it does on service innovation, the development of our people, financial good practice and business excellence.

Our people

The Group recognises that its competitive advantage depends upon the quality and motivation of the people it employs. Its employment policies, including the commitment to equal opportunity and diversity, are designed to attract, retain and motivate high calibre employees regardless of age, sex, race, religion or disability. Spring gives full consideration to applications for employment from disabled persons where a handicapped or disabled person can fulfill the requirements of the role. Where existing employees become disabled, it is the Group’s policy wherever practicable to provide continuing employment under normal terms and conditions and to provide training, career development and promotion to disabled employees wherever appropriate. All Group employee policies are accessible to all employees via the company Intranet.

The Group considers that effective communications are particularly important and it is committed to promoting the involvement of all its employees in the Group’s business aims and performance.

  • Spring ‘Round Table’. Held on a regular basis and chaired by the Chief Executive Officer, appointed representatives from across the whole Group are updated on developments within the business and advised of potential changes that could affect employees. The attendees are encouraged to ask questions and participate in discussions. It is then the responsibility of the attendees to cascade information to their colleagues.
  • Spring ‘Experience’. This regular email newsletter, circulated to all employees, highlights notable business achievements, individual performance excellence, internal questionnaires and also helps to promote social activities.

Spring has always believed in developing its people. The Spring Learning Portal has been designed in partnership with Ashridge Business School to make available to every Spring employee a wide range of on-line development resources - journal articles, book summaries, management pocket books, websites and practical learning guides. The aim is to help our employees develop in their current roles and prepare for future roles. In addition, the Portal provides information about the Open Courses and Development Programmes provided by Spring’s internal Learning and Development team.

Diversity

Spring is committed to assisting its clients to attract, motivate and retain the best talent available to help the achievement of their business objectives. As a major supplier of staffing services, Spring actively promotes diversity when identifying and recruiting candidates for temporary, contract and permanent roles within client organisations, well as when attracting new employees to Spring.

Spring is also a founding member of Supplier Diversity Europe that champions the business case for the inclusion of diverse suppliers within supply chains across the UK, and the rest of Europe, by working in partnership with businesses and public organisations.

Our environment

The Spring Group recognises its responsibility to achieve good environmental practice and to continuously strive for improvement in its environmental impact.

In the execution of this policy Spring ensures that, wherever possible, waste consumable materials are recycled or disposed of in a manner that reduces any impact on the natural environment. Spring actively encourages all staff to participate in the implementation of this policy and encourages all suppliers to be environmentally friendly, where practicable.

Charitable giving and involvement

Each year our employees nominate a charity to be the focus for the year’s fund raising events and activities across the organisation. These activities range from those undertaken by individuals, including contractors as well as employees, through to group team activities organised by the Spring social club. Our nominated charities are as follows:

  • ‘The Shaw Trust’ in 2004
  • ‘Get Kids Going’ in 2005
  • ‘Well Child’ in 2006
  • ‘NCH’ in 2007

The Group has also given support to The Prince’s Trust.

Spring social club – SClub

The Group provides support for an employee social club, SClub. SClub has its own organising committee of employees and arranges social and fund-raising activities available to all employees across all Group locations. SClub also represents Spring at industry social events and competitions.
